I think this article can best be told in Ryans own words! Smart, funny, and out to save the world! There is no stopping this kid!
Recycling is important to me because it’s a way that we can all pitch in to help the planet. It doesn’t matter if you’re a 9 year old kid like me or if you’re old like Mike is. Everyone can pitch in and it’s easy to do.
I recycle plastic bottles, glass bottles and aluminum cans. I’ve been recycling since I was three years old and I’ve recycled almost 360,000 cans and bottles. That’s almost 77,000 lbs that would have gone to the landfill or out to the ocean where it’s bad for the environment and animals.
Did you know that it takes over 600 years for a plastic water bottle to break down or that every plastic straw that’s ever been made is still on the Earth? I love to recycle because I get to clean up the environment and I get to save money. My dad says it’s for college but I want to use it for a trash truck. There is a giant garbage patch floating out in the Pacific Ocean with all of our plastic trash and I hope someday that someone invents a way to clean it up. Maybe I’ll be part of that solution.
You can help me save the planet three ways:
- Throw anything recyclable into the correct bin and make a habit of picking up one piece of trash you see on the ground every day.
- Buy one of my t-shirts on my website: www.ryansrecycling.com and the proceeds will be donated to my friends at the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach. They rescue seals and sea lions that are sick, starving, injured and abandoned. Every shirt sold buys food and medicine for the animals.
- If you live in Orange County, come help me at a beach clean up. I go a few times a month and pick up trash. It’s actually pretty fun to do and we make a big difference.
